SCORSESE: MY VOYAGE TO ITALY

(M, 876mins) Umbrella

Visconti's Terra trema, De Sica's The Bicycle Thief, Antonioni's L'Aventurra and Fellini's I Vitelloni all inspired Martin Scorsese to become a filmmaker and are included in this superb box set. The title, however, refers to Scorsese's own four-hour valentine to Italian cinema in which he articulates the reasons why these and many others affected him so much. The film is liberally interspersed with excerpts, Scorsese is a fine raconteur, and his approach, as always, is uniquely personal, passionate and eloquent. And as he replays and analyses the key moments that moved him so much, he will have you falling in love with film all over again, if not picking up a camera to make your own.
